What to do if you have an accident or other lossWhen you have an accident, a loss, or a possible claim, contact us as soon as possible. We will guide you through the claims process. In the event of an emergency, call 911 and get to a safe place. Below is a list of each insurers’ claims department if you would like to contact them directly or if you need to call outside of normal business hours.
Information to have available when calling about a lossWhile we can access most of your policy information with your name and address, you should have your policy number if it’s available. Be prepared to provide as much of the following as possible:
- Type of loss (i.e., auto, home, business)
- Location, time, and date of accident or loss
- Copy of police report if available
- Name, address, and phone numbers of other party(ies), witness(es), or passenger(s) involved
- Insurance company and policy number of the other party(ies)
- Description of the damage
- Description of what happened
- A estimate of damage if already obtained
What to do until help arrivesMost insurance policies require that you contact the claims department to report any accidents or possible claims and that you take reasonable measures to prevent further loss. In some cases, you can do this yourself by shutting off the source of a water leak or coverage a hole in a roof with a tarp, for example. If you need help, we can provide you with a list of qualified professionals for special needs such as fire and smoke damage.
Is the loss covered? Please call the office to discuss any loss that you might have. While the ultimate decision comes from the claims department, in many cases we can help you determine if you have a covered loss. If it is an emergency, call 911.
